Jazz Razz

Jazz Razz

Alright, if any of you have a passion for jazz like me... this is the place.  Here you can post your favourite jazz tunes, types, players, composers, tips for improvising, tips for playing, funny stories involving jazz, anything at all, as long as it's on jazz music!!

Alright, what we're playing right now in my school's Senior Jazz Band is Apple Honey, Swingin' Shepherd Blues, and Hot Hot Hot... I persuaded my Band teacher to buy Buy It and Fry It which our big band played at Jazz week at IMC.

Re: Jazz Razz

It is Kevin indeed!  I'll definitely check out that website!!  The Cork Jazz Festival sounds like fun... 2:30 til 6, that is crazy!!  Me, I love to play jazz, I'm better on Clarinet than I am on Sax, but that doesn't matter since I'm lead Alto in my jazz band anyway!  (There are only two of us, it's very sad) but I love jamming and soloing, a passion I didn't really know much about before IMC.  Softly as a morning sunrise... I think I have a recording of that... do you want me to email it to you?

We have a jazz festival too, called the Brandon Jazz Festival.  Brandon is a city about three hours drive from Winnipeg if you go the speed limit... (2 and a half hours it usually takes) Anyway, a bunch of schools go there, play, attend clinics, and get critiqued on their work.  It's fun!  Take a look: https://www.brandonjazzfestival.com/

Kevin, I remember you soloing on French Horn, that was awesome!  Just wanted to let you know.

Re: Jazz Razz

Normally we have every year a small jazz-festival in my town (not directly in mine, because that´s more a village, but in the next bigger one) but for one year there are problems with organisation, because there where personality-changes and it doesn´t go on...

Re: Jazz Razz

My jazz band had an after-school rehearsal and Mr. Klassen (my band director) handed out the piece I wrote!  The best thing is:  Everyone loved playing it!  I was so thrilled

Re: Jazz Razz

You wrote a piece by yourself? Great! I guess I´d love it too...

Re: Jazz Razz

Well, I arranged it... but most of it I had to write... I took Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' and made it big band

Re: Jazz Razz

I had to arrange a piece for my conductor´s diploma too, but it was a totally different style - a baroque march! It was originally written by a princess of Prussia who lived in the 18th century and it was just for 2 violins, cello and double bass. I had to arrange it for all wind and brass... much work to do....

Re: Jazz Razz

That's so awesome!  I was working on "The Entertainer" for a woodwind quintet in the summer and now I'm trying to get Für Elise for a Woodwind Choir.  Do you want to trade some pieces?
