The Last Post

The Last Post

I played The Last Post for Remembrance Day this year.  I had to play it at our school, the Elementary school, and the Church on Saturday.  Nerve-racking.  I screwed up Reveille on my final performance.  :(  A bit disappointing.<br>

I ALSO GOT A NEW TRUMPET.  .....

It's got so many dotted eighth notes in it/I'd keep 'er under fifty beats a minute

Re: The Last Post

"The Last Post"  --> What´s that about? I probably know it if I could hear it, but I´ve never heard this name. Is it something like a military signal?

And congratulation to your new trumpet!!!

Re: The Last Post

Yeah, it was the military call to arms.  Everyone gets together for a day of remembrance for the soldiers who died in past wars; and during these ceremonies a trumpeter plays The Last Post, and then there is two minutes of silence (for respect and remembrance, I guess) and then the trumpeter plays the Revielle, which is faster and more fanfare-ish.  It's a bit nerve racking because it's so quiiiet.  You really don't want to screw up.  :P

Re: The Last Post

Well, I guess I know it - at least the Reveille!

Are army bands in Canada as common as in U.S.?? Because in U.S. I know there are a lot!

Re: The Last Post

I wouldn't know about the army bands... all I know is that our military sucks... hahaha

Congrats on your new trumpet, Megg!! What model is it? Is it silver or gold?  Tell me about it!!  You know I always love to hear about new instruments!!

Re: The Last Post

I´m very interested in army bands, because I went to our army-band a whole year long to practice conducting and I really liked it. I even wanted to join the army band after my final exams, but then I decided not to do, because I didn´t want to lose one year of university!

My trumpet is a Yamaha Xeno and it's silver. :P It pwns. I generally like lacquered better, but I just loved how this one played so I made a compromise.  lawlz.
