The Bible
WE IN ETHIOPIA HAVE ONE OF THE OLDEST VERSIONS OF THE BIBLE, but however old the version may be, in whatever language it might be written, the Word remains one and the same. It transcends all boundaries of empires and all conceptions of race. It is eternal.
No doubt you all remember reading in the Acts of the Apostles of how Philip baptised the Ethiopian official. He is the first Ethiopian on record to have followed Christ, and from that day onwards the Word of God has continued to grow in the hearts of Ethiopians. And I might say for myself that from early childhood I was taught to appreciate the Bible and my love for it increases with the passage of time. All through my troubles I have found it a cause of infinite comfort.
"Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" who can resist an invitation so full of compassion?
Because of this personal experience in the goodness of the Bible, I was resolved that all my countrymen should also share its great blessing and that by reading the Bible they should find truth for themselves. Therefore, I caused a new translation to be made from our ancient language into the language which the old and the young understood and spoke.
Today man sees all his hopes and aspirations crumbling before him. He is perplexed and knows not whither he is drifting. But he must realise that the Bible is his refuge, and the rallying point for all humanity. In it man will find the solution of his present difficulties and guidance for his future action, and unless he accepts with clear conscience the Bible and its great Message, he cannot hope for salvation. For my part I glory in the Bible.
Wir in Äthiopien haben eine der ältesten Versionen der Bibel, aber wie alt auch immer sie sein mag, in welcher Sprache sie geschrieben steht, ihre Botschaft ist ein und dieselbe. Sie überschreitet alle Grenzen und alle Vorstellungen von Rasse und Hautfarbe. Die Bibel ist immerwährend.
Kein Zweifel, dass ihr euch alle daran erinnert, wie Philip die Äthiopier taufte. Philip ist der erste Äthiopier, der dem Messias folgte und seitdem wuchs das Wort Gottes in den Herzen der Äthiopier. Seit meiner Kindheit wurde ich gelehrt die Bibel zu schätzen und zu ehren und meine Liebe zu ihr wächst gemeinsam mit der Zeit. Trotz all meiner Schwierigkeiten habe ich in ihr unbegrenzt Trost gefunden.
"Kommt zu mir, alle die zu kämpfen haben und ein schweres Los haben, und ich werde euch Ruhe, eine Stütze geben." ...Wer kann einer Einladung, voll von Mitgefühl widerstehen ?
Aufgrund dieser persönlichen Erfahrung mit der Göttlichkeit der Bibel, bin ich überzeugt, das auch alle meine Landsleute diesen Segen erfahren sollen und durch das Lesen der Bibel ihre eigene Wahrheit finden sollen. Zu diesem Anlass habe ich eine Übersetzung der Bibel aus der alten Sprache in die Sprache, die Alt und Jung verstehen, veranlasst.
Heute sehen die Menschen all ihre Hoffnungen und Bestrebungen vor ihren Augen zerbröckeln. Der Mensch ist verwirrt und weis nicht wohin er geht. Aber er muss erkennen, dass die Bibel seine Zuflucht und der Treffpunkt der Menschheit ist. In ihr wird der Mensch die Lösung für seine Probleme und die Führung in eine gute Zukunft finden. Ohne die Bibel zu akzeptieren und ihre göttliche Botschaft klar zu erkennen, kann der Mensch keine Hoffnung auf Erlösung. Ich für meinen Teil verehre die Bibel.

The Death
Now, however, it has become your fate to obey the order of the great and merciful Lord, a lot that befalls each and everyone of us in our turn.
As it were, after you had accomplished what was within your bounds, you have slept, but although you depart from us physically, your works and your name will always remain among us.
On the death of Prince Makonnen:
Mortality is man's inevitable course. We must patiently accept God's resolution in giving us Makonnen, the one whom he gave us to be the ornament of our life, and recalling him.
Death changes everything, sweeps everything away. Even mistakes.
On the death of the Empress (April 3rd 1930):
"In accordance with the Proclamation which our Creator, abiding in His people, and electing us, did cause to be made, we have lived without breach of our Covenant as mother and son. Now, in that by the law and commandment of God, none that is human may avoid return to earth, Her Majesty the Empress, after a few days of sickness, has departed this life. Zum Tod von Prinz Makonnen:
Sterblichkeit ist des Menschen unvermeidlicher Weg. Wir müssen Gottes Entscheidung, uns Makonnnen zu schicken und ihn wieder zu sich zurückzuholen, akzeptieren.
Der Tod ändert alles und fegt alles weg, sogar Fehler.
Zum Tod der Kaiserin (3. April 1930):
In Übereinstimmung mit der Verkündigung, die unser Schöpfer kundtat, haben wir ohne Bruch unseres Bundes als Mutter und Sohn gelebt. Jetzt hat ihre Majestät die Kaiserin, nach ein paar Tagen Krankheit, dieses Leben verlassen. Das Dahinscheiden ihrer Majestät ist schmerzhaft für mich und für das ganze Imperium. The people themselves must come to realize their own difficulties in the development of their community and try to solve them by collective participation following an order of priority and taking their potentiality into account.
It is well known to you all that recognizing one's problems and striving hard to challenge them is a mark of an attempt at self-sufficiency. Self help in the benefits to be acquired through education, will save the individual from asking someone's assistance.
Es sind die Leute selbst, die ihre eigenen Schwierigkeiten in der Entwicklung der Gemeinschaft erkennen müssen und versuchen müssen, sie durch kollektive Teilnahme zu lösen und so ihr Potential entfalten können.

Spirituality
The temple of the most high begins with the human body, which houses our life, essence of our existence. Africans are in bondage today because they approach spirituality through Religion provided by foreign invaders and conquerors. We must stop confusing religion and spirituality. Religion is a set of rules, regulations and rituals created by humans which were supposed to help people grow spiritually.
Due to human imperfection religion has become corrupt, political, divisive and a tool for power struggle. Spirituality is not theology or ideology. It is simply a way of life, pure and original as was given by the Most High. Spirituality is a network linking us to the Most High, the universe and each other. As the essence of our existence it embodies our culture, true identity, nationhood and destiny. A people without a nation they can really call their own is a people without a soul. Africa is our nation and is in spiritual and physical bondage because her leaders are turning to outside forces for solutions to African problems when everything Africa needs is within her. When African righteous people come together, the world will come together. This is our divine destiny.

Spiritualität ist ein Netzwerk, das uns mit dem Herrn, dem Universum und jedem anderen Menschen verbindet. Als Geist unserer Existenz verkörpert die Spiritualität unsere Kultur, unsere wahre Identität, unsere nationale Selbstständigkeit und unser Schicksal. Ein Volk ohne eine Nation, die sie ihr Eigen nennen können, ist ein Volk ohne Seele. Afrika, als unsere Nation, ist in spiritueller und physischer Gefangenschaft, weil ihre Führer zu äußeren Mitteln greifen, wenn das Problem mit den inneren, den eigenen, den afrikanischen Mitteln gelöst werden kann. Wenn gerechte afrikanische Leute zusammenkommen, kommt die Welt zusammen. Das ist unser göttliches Schicksal.
