Hmngrmblfx... Just tried to install the current remake version and got nothing but an error message. Which version of DirectX do I need to run it correctly (minimum)? Must have one lying around somewhere which isn't that old... Damn. One of those days I'm gonna get me an internet connection of my own.

Re: Tower Conversion Tool
You need at least DirectX9.0b runtime version. There is a "readme.txt" with all important informations in it.
Some notes: There's a small bug in this current version on
Hm, this thread has gone a little bit off topic obviously.... Time to bring it back on track. I'm happy to be able to make the following announcement:
The Tower Conversion Tool is finally finished!! No, it's not finished. Actually it's still far from being finished. But after having been very very lazy lately, i finally took some time to hack some more lines, et voila - it works! I was able to convert Amiga to Atari and vice versa, and to get ToB to accept the converted disk files without any error messages. There's still some finetuning and lots of testing to do, plus a decent user interface. But theoretically it's able to convert towers, groups, savegames and highscores in both directions. Expect a first test version tomorrow evening. No remake format support yet, I'm afraid! But that shouldn't be too difficult.
Since I've "licked blood" (found no proper translation for that... Arti?!) somehow, chances are I'll upgrade the tool to a full editor some day. But I currently have a lot of important and difficult stuff to do at work, so maybe I won't be too eager to do any more coding in my spare time in the near future.
Re: Tower Conversion Tool
Damn. It successfully converts SOME towers. On others I get checksum errors or invalid file errors....
Re: Tower Conversion Tool
What's about a DEVELEPMONET VERSION to test
Or can i see the source code?
I've gotten also checksum errors sometimes where I've tested my own ToBImport-functions... I don't know what kind of algorith causes this...
I also had the problem that unlocked towers were locked after conversion, with an empy password. But that's going to be fixed right now. So the DEVELOPMENT VERSION (As I said, it's DEFINITELY not going to be the final version yet!) will be up in time.
Re: Tower Conversion Tool
*lol* I completely f..... up the colors in the Atari version... It sure DID look very funny that way, but I decided it'd be better to do it correctly. So here it is, the first test version of the Tower Conversion Tool!
Short description: In the upper left corner you'll find the input file selection. The file open dialog will show you all ADF and ST files in the current directory. To get a better overview, you can set the file filter to show only ADF or only ST files. Just select the file you want to convert and click on 'open'. If the selected file is a ToB savedisk, the big edit field will show you its directory. Now simply click the 'Convert' button, and a converted version of the disk will be saved using the same filename, with the extension automatically changing to the corresponding format ("TEST.ADF" will be saves as "TEST.ST"). If everything went well, the small message field will show a "conversion successful" message. And that's it.
Please do some testing and keep me informed about the results!!
Edit: Slightly improved version of ToBCon.exe attached.
There are some differences between both game versions. The Amiga version does not have a 'blue pulse' effect, and the Atari version does not allow to select a 'sky type' (and it only has half the colour depth). This makes it impossible to do a 100% correct conversion. Anyway, all the other features should work by now, though they are mostly harmless. Eh, sorry, mostly untested...
Re: Tower Conversion Tool
HELP!!
Mayo reported a problem with loading converted groups in Atari format. My 'SainT' insistently refuses to save anything to disk, so I can't take a look at the original Atari group format. Obviously there are differences to the Amiga group format, but I don't know which. Can anybody please send me an ST-file containing at least one GROUP please?!?
Edit: I also need savegames and highscores in original ST format!
Re: Tower Conversion Tool
"...licked blood..."?
I'm not sure what the English equivalent is, but some possibles are: [drawing] first blood sunk your teeth into it broken the back of it
Gosh, what violent imagery. Isn't there a friendly way to say that you've completed the first, essential part of a task and that the rest will be considerably less difficult?
