Original TOwers?

Re: Original TOwers?

Yeah, our tenth member (and obviously a new "Jungspund" *g*)! And even from Australia...
Welcome, Gandalf! Pedo mellon a minno!

You don't happen to have any cockatoos or cockatiels flying around in your garden, do you?!?
May I ask what language you are using for ToB2?

Z and me already introduced ourselves and the "history" of this forum in the ToB2 forum. Most of us here live in Germany, but we're very widespread throughout the country. Exiter and me are very old friends, and as we both liked ToB very much, we were looking for other people building their own towers. That's how we got to know Z. Back in the days where you had to send disks via snail mail... *g* Mayo decided to do a remake of ToB, and found help by warcus, probably just the same way you found Mithrandir. Z found Mayo and warcus - and also Artinum, who wrote some online reviews of ToB - by internet search. And Arma is an old friend of Z. And now we're all assembled in this forum. Hope I could make that clear...

Finishing all 117 towers of ToB isn't really a proof of brain, is it?! *g*
If you want to play some *really* hard towers, look around in the "Building the Tower" section: https://www.carookee.com/forum/ToB/2
I guess we have quite a nice collection there. Though they are not completely catalogued and rated yet.

Re: Original TOwers?

Hey Fawlty,

We're using vb6. I started coding with vb6 but since then i've also used c/c++ and java. For the future i will probbaly not use vb6 for large project. The lack of inheritance is starting to get on my nerves but its still a decent language for small apps :). If i had to pick another language it would be c# which looks pretty good me. Learning delphi wouldn't hurt either but i'm in no hurry.

As for my nick, I picked it before the movies came out :P I didn't finish reading all of LOTR as i got bored near the end of the 2nd book (or was it the beginning of the third). Either way wizards rule

Mith

PS. I was born in austria and lived there for a while so i can also read german

Re: Original TOwers?

I am probably the only non-German speaker on the forum then. Grrr.

Seems somebody here speaks Elvish too - I caught the word "friend" but mostly I skim-read those bits. The books are way better than the films (none of that Arwen/Aragorn romantic crap, and that whole section with Saruman industrialising Hobbiton got cut - why?? It would have broken up those last seventeen hours of goodbyes...)

I could go into a huge rant about those films - which were, in fact, very good in my opinion - but I've already got into a longwinded soapbox session with a friend of mine recently about the music industry and I don't want to wear my fingers off.

Artinum.

Re: Original TOwers?

He he. Keep on trying, then we can set the standard language of the forum to German some day...
But honestly, I'm really happy that I now have a reason to at least write English quite often. I still need lots of practice with speaking though...
By the way: congratulations to your promotion! I'm no longer the only zapper here...

I never studied grammar and vocabulary, but at least Z and me used to write postcards in Tengwar for a while. Long before the movies, of course. But don't worry, LotR is not my bible.
Well, come to think of it, it's even quite close to the bible. Both are very fascinating fairy-tale books.
As for the movies, I see the LotR books and movies as two separate things. I didn't expect the movies to be the perfect picturisation of the books (which they obvisously aren't), and I must say they were pretty good entertainment. I really enjoyed them.

@Mith:
From Austria to Australia?!? Funny...
Where in Austria are you from, and where do you live now?

Re: Original TOwers?

Aah, if only I could have prevailed on that Finn to join the community... we'd be that one step closer to an international, world-wide conspiracy....
Thanks to Mithrandir one huge gap has been plugged. Hi there! Nice to get to know you.

But...
BUT...

How is that possible???

Re: Original TOwers?

I guessed right - it's the number of posts. I finally passed the einhunderdt mark... fantastisch!

As for Lord of the Rings, I enjoyed both films and books immensely and you are quite right - they are best regarded separately.

But as for failing to finish the books... actually, I have to confess I gave up the first time. I got bogged down in Lothlorien and elves are so DULL. I was much younger then, so much younger than today...

Artinum.

Re: Original TOwers?

wow... 100 posts to get to the next level... that is just a touch steep, isn't it? Anyway... congrats on 101 posts

looks can be deceiving

Re: Original TOwers?

100 sure is a long way to go. Might get there by 2010.

I lived in Vienna for 11 years , then my family moved to Sydney and we've been here ever since. Took a while to get used to living here but it isn't that difficult.

BTW, I've noticed that this forum is behaving a bit strangely. It seems to log me off randomly especially when i'm trying to make posts.

Re: Original TOwers?

Let's hope it's not a hint
But I read that the forum in other places has also not responded quite to design specifications (ie is a little odd).
As long as the basics work...

looks can be deceiving

Re: Original TOwers?

Yeah, but I bet living in Vienna must have been deadly.... *gg*
No, seriously, Austria is a nice country. I've been to Salzburg when I was a small kid, and later had to join my family on trips to Kärnten for four years in a row. That was a bit too much. I'm traumatised...
Hm. I guess one could even find a couple of resemblances between Wienerisch and the Australian way of talking.

I haven't experienced that problem yet, but the forum definitely has it's strange moments. Remember I welcomed you as our tenth member? We have nine members now, but I swear the statistics on the main page said 10! The "new messages" feature doesn't work at all, and the "unread" flag completely misbehaves from time to time. The download counter for files isn't very trustworthy, too. Anyway, for our purposes, it's definitely okay.
By the way, it also offers a chat. If you see other users online in the forum (and have a few minutes to spare ), it's a really nice feature. We could also exchange ICQ numbers of course.
