"The Nude tour, the last tour Andy did with Camel, was particularly gruelling for him. What wasnt known at the time was that the illness which was to continually afflict him was beginning to manifest itself quite dramatically. Manic depression, also known as bipolar disorder, ricochets the sufferer from one end of the emotional scale to the other. On the tour Andy had all of the delusions of grandeur one expects from this illness. He could do no wrong, he felt. Whilst the mania drove some quite extraordinary showmanship on stage, his offstage grandiosity was difficult to take for the other band members.
Manic depressives often fuel their euphoric feelings with alcohol and/or drugs and Andy was no exception, particularly with drinking and it was the drinking that masked the underlying illness for so many years. Whilst he could appear witty and charming and great fun, he was a royal pain for those close to him. But shortly after the tour he hit the rock-bottom lows and the injury to his hand which was the tactful reason given for his not appearing on The Single Factor was in actual fact self-inflicted in a desperate suicide attempt. "

Es ist schon erstaunlich, wie sich die Camel-Alben stilistisch unterscheiden und trotzdem immer die Handschrift Latimers heraus zu hören ist. Wenn man z. B. "Camel I", "The Snow Goose", "Moonmadness" und "Harbour of Tears" neben einander stellt, scheinen die Alben in unterschiedliche Genres zu gehören, die sich alle unter dem Oberbegriff "Prog" tummeln.

Ich mag die verschiedenen Klang-Farben, die innerhalb der Alben zu finden sind. Stimmungen von Melancholie bis Optimismus gibt es in jedem Album zu hören, darin waren/sind die Männer um Latimer Meister.
Wenn ich glitzernde Wasser sehe, muss ich immer an den armen P. Bardens denken. Aber vielleicht liest er ja gerade im Forum mit.
Leider wird man in der heutigen Nacht keinen "Lunar Sea" beobachten können.
Am 7. Juni ist es dann wieder so weit, hoffentlich ist dann so eine klare Nacht wie heute.
